Author's E2K: April 2003
Welcome to the April issue of Net Author's E2K! Announcing Net Author's Third Annual Flash Fiction Contest! Each year, Net Author is pleased to encourage this genre by holding its own flash fiction contest. The entries are judged in a blind review format, and the winners receive both cash and publication rewards. First prize is worth $100 (usd), second receives $50, third and fourth each receive $25. Regardless of whether flash fiction is your area of specialty, your secret passion, or you've never even tried your hand at the genre, now is the time to polish it up and send it in. We're accepting submissions through July 15; winners will be announced in the August 15 issue, and published in the August, September, October, and November issues of Net Author's E2K. Interested? We hope so. You'll find a full description of the contest, contest rules, and the contest submission form at: http://netauthor.org/e2k/april2003/contest.html Over the past few months, we've been incredibly fortunate to have a wealth of excellent poetry submissions. Since we just can't say no to outstanding writing, it means that our cache of poems waiting to be printed has grown to almost impossible lengths; the poems we're printing now were accepted almost a year ago. As a result, we've decided to honor the efforts of our waiting poets and put at least a few of them out of their suspense: Next month will be a poetry-special issue. We'll still be accepting all genres of writing, but the May issue will be a poetry-lover's feast. In this issue, Abigail Steidley takes a light-hearted but firm poke at a dilemma faced by almost all of us who write in today's electronic age--and offers her own resolution. Marian Allen makes a most welcome return with a short fiction you'll want to come back to, and Carol Papenhausen makes her debut with a story you'll recognize--almost. Michael Sayeau joins the ranks of Net Author-published writers with "Under the Mattress," and Jim Bennett adds his own thoughtful voice with "the definition of art." M. Flaming delivers an essay that made us break our own rule about printing material that borders on the editorial in nature. It's an interesting blend this month, and we hope you'll be pleased.
Editor's Note: If you're an AOL user and are considering submitting material to us, please be sure to read the note for AOL users at the bottom of the Submission Guide.
