Welcome to the June issue of Net Author's E2K. Make yourself comfortable and grab a cup of coffee, because this month's issue is special.

Net Author's Annual Flash Fiction Contest. Our panel of judges has finally tallied their votes and come up with a list of winners for our Annual Flash Fiction contest. We received a bumper crop of submissions this year, and an exceptional number of truly wonderful stories; our judges didn't have an easy time of it this year. For all of you who submitted, we'd like to offer our thanks, and we hope we'll see you in our in-boxes well before next year's contest. Please do check out our submissions guidelines.

Special congratulations go to our winner and four runners-up:

  • First Prize, $100: "Blind Leading," by Carlos Hernandez
  • Second Prize, $50: "Prodigal," by Marian Allen
  • Third Runner-up, $25: "Lessons in the Afternoon," by Lynn Bey
  • Fourth Runner-up, $25: "Morbid Like Sunshine," by Lucy A. E. Ward
  • Fifth Runner-up, $25: "Blue," by Debi Orton

You'll find Carlos Hernandez's prize-winning story in the fiction section of this issue, and we'll print the second through fifth winners--one in each of the issues to come--to finish off our showcase of flash fiction excellence.

Introducing . . . The Helicon. Net Author has been blessed over the past several months to receive a wealth of quality poems, and as a result, we've gathered a tidy little cache. Over the next couple of months we have the opportunity to publish a few extra poems and clear part of our backlog, but we're also introducing a new feature for our poetry section. Sabina Becker, our Poetry Editor, will tell you all about it when The Helicon makes its debut in the July issue.

Yet Another Kudo . . . The Digital Literature Institute has announced the Short List for the 2002 Independent e-Book Awards. Net Author's E2K was nominated for the Reader¹s Choice, Favorite e-Zine. Winners and finalists will be announced at a special ceremony on November 2, 2002 during the Digital Literature Festival in Santa Barbara, California. Regardless of whether Net Author's literary journal wins or not, the nomination itself is a joy. To all our readers--thank you.
