In January, 2002 the U. S. Internal Revenue Service recognized Net Author, Inc. as a publicly supported, tax-exempt organization. This means, within the restrictions of the U. S. tax law, that donations to Net Author are tax-deductible. Net Author publishes an online literary magazine, operates a free writers' discussion group and maintains an online writers' resource. All services have been offered free of charge. These basic services will continue to be offered without charge in service to the writing and reading community.

Of course, it costs money to offer these services but Net Author has been fortunate to have a corporate sponsor to help defray the costs of hosting services, paid honorariums (as in royalties paid for published work) and the once-per year gifts of appreciation made to an otherwise uncompensated staff of professionals. Stargate Electronic Library, Incorporated has underwritten most of these expenses.

As a service organization, Net Author is committed to the ideal of universal access to the tools of literary creativity. In other words, we think everyone should have the resources available to them to become effective writers. Our staff is comprised of writing professionals. Our board of directors is drawn from industry professionals. We offer an internship to aspiring editors. Education is only part of our mission, however. We are also committed to excellence in literary content for the Internet. We reward those writers who labor creatively. We pay for poetry, stories and articles. We have sponsored contests with cash prizes without fee to date.

Net Author is a service organization with ambition. We intend to offer expanded services, including more contests with cash prizes, a professional level of compensation for published work and an increased number of slots for staff internships. We will be seeking additional grants and gifts from corporations and foundations, as well as soliciting individual donations in order to expand into these areas of service.

We hope you've found Net Author to be a valuable writer's resource and a source of high quality literary entertainment. If you have found our service to be such, please consider making an individual contribution. If you work for a company and you find our organization to be worthwhile, please suggest a charitable donation for Net Author to the management. As always, we invite your comments. Please let us know what you find to be valuable and what changes you would like to see made.

Net Author Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, incorporated in Harris County, Texas, U. S. A.
