Welcome to the September issue of Net Author's E2K.

Net Author's Annual Flash Fiction Contest. If you missed June's announcement of the contest winners, don't fret; we're listing them below for you, and you'll find the Fourth Place Winner--Lucy A. E. Ward's "Morbid Like Sunshine"--in this month's issue. Remember, because we publish every month, we archive each month's journal under the "Archives" link. Don't hesitate to browse backwards if you miss an issue.

  • First Prize, $100: "Blind Leading," by Carlos Hernandez
  • Second Prize, $50: "Prodigal," by Marian Allen
  • Third Runner-up, $25: "Lessons in the Afternoon," by Lynn Bey
  • Fourth Runner-up, $25: "Morbid Like Sunshine," by Lucy A. E. Ward
  • Fifth Runner-up, $25: "Blue," by Debi Orton

Next month, Debi Orton's story will close out this year's series.

In this month's issue--in addition to the Flash Fiction Contest story by Lucy A. E. Ward, of course--we welcome J. Broussard with one of the most engaging short fictions about academia that we've seen in a long while. Casie Hurt returns to us with a poem whose strong images will linger well after you've turned the page, and Bunny Goodjohn makes her own début with a poem of a slightly different twist. Shannon Muir appears for the first time with an essay designed to help writers explore the possibility and potential of column writing, and our own Julia Brown shows us what she's been reading these days.

Next publication date: 15 October 2002
